“I Was Broke”: Bodybuilding Legend Had To Do Humble Jobs As He Struggled To Fund His Chicken Breasts Diet During Early Days

Although he is one of the top bodybuilders in history, life hasn’t been a bed of roses for Jay Cutler. Jay has practically been raised by older siblings after their parents’ divorce when he was 4. Jay has had a rough childhood with one earning and 7 kids to feed. This prompted him to start working at the early of 11.

The four-time Mr. Olympia, Jay Cutler, once in a podcast, opened up about the time when he was on his beam’s end.

How did Cutler reach California for the first time?

Earlier this year, legendary bodybuilder Jay culture appeared in one of the podcast episodes of ‘Straight Outta the Lair with Flex Lewis.’ In the episode that lasted 18 minutes over an hour, Jay opened up about a lot of things, including his rough childhood and struggle with money.

While sharing the story of how he got to California for the first time to attend the USA 1993, Jay revealed that he was “broke” during that time. He shared that it was because of a misprint in the Boston Globe that enabled him to attend the event. Chris Aceto informed Jay about an ad in the abovementioned newspaper. The said ad promised a round-trip ticket to California for $99.

Furthermore, he revealed the reason it was an opportunity he couldn’t miss. He said, “I was broke. I was working just miscellaneous just doing like security and whatever else. I think I was actually working on a golf course doing maintenance at this point um because I was just trying to fund like my chicken breast yeah and whatever.”

Consequently, Jay and his then-girlfriend (now ex-wife), Kerry Cutler, called up the Boston Globe office to redeem the offer.

Who is Jay Cutler?

Born Jason Isaac Cutler, Jay is a retired professional bodybuilder. The 49 years old has won the Mr. Olympia title four times and has been a runner-up six times. Cutler was famous for his quad-stomp pose.

Despite having a rough childhood, he broke the shackles of his past. Jay has not only been a successful bodybuilder, but he is also a successful entrepreneur. Jay Cutler is the owner of Cutler Nutrition, a bodybuilding supplement business.
