The final preparation, just a few minutes before going up on the stage, is as important as those long months of training for a professional bodybuilder. But just like every other time, different bodybuilders use different methods to give that final touch to their physique. Jay Cutler, who has won one of the biggest bodybuilding contests more than three times, recently revealed his secret weapon backstage.

Born in 1973, Cutler was among the frontrunners of all bodybuilding competitions in the early 2000s. He claimed his first Mr. Olympia victory in 2006 after dethroning The King, a.k.a. 8x Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman. Recently, he took to Instagram to reveal what he did backstage during the final preparatory hours.

Mr. Fourth Quarter spills the beans about his backstage strategy

On February 8, 2023, Jay Cutler took to his Instagram to answer a rather less-asked question. The question was about how Cutler prepared himself backstage during Mr. Olympia.

“I actually won four titles and was using just a band workout or a band pump backstage, said the 4x Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler. Showing the band, he continued, “These are the actual bands that I carried with me at my four Mr. Olympia victories. And I’m not going to count the second-place finishes. But this would be how I pumped up backstage.”

Furthermore, Cutler added that he was among the few bodybuilders that really didn’t pump much backstage. Lastly, he added, “A lot of the other types of shows, they necessarily didn’t have a lot of weights. Although we did have a full pump-up room backstage at Mr. Olympia. But truthfully, this is all I really used.” However, whether it is backstage or back in the gym, exercise isn’t the only thing Cutler focused on.

Jay Cutler reveals his insane Olympia-winning diet

In March 2023, Mr. Fourth Quarter joined Mike Sartain for his YouTube podcast. Herein, the two spoke about a wide range of topics including Cutler’s massive diet during his competitive days. Jay Cutler revealed he used to consume a whopping 140 egg whites in a single day.

Dividing them for each meal, Cutler said he was eating 30 whites per meal. He did so because his routine required him to consume 500 grams of protein per day. Furthermore, it is to be noted that egg whites weren’t all that he ate. It was just a part of his much larger meal. His everyday diet also included chicken and steak. According to Cutler, he was consuming over four pounds of meat every day.
