“Mom Was Cooking All My Food”: Bodybuilding Giant Ronnie Coleman Once Gave Major Credit to His Family for Playing a Huge Role in His Success

Ronnie Coleman ruled bodybuilding for over a decade. During his prime, the Louisiana native was deemed unbeatable. However, it’s one thing to climb to the top and another to stay there. While hard work and dedication were never in short supply with Ronnie, his family also played a huge role in his success.

When Generation Iron asked Ronnie how his family helped him in his career, Ronnie couldn’t praise them enough and didn’t hold back any details.

Ronnie Coleman revealed how his family helped him

During an interview with Generation Iron, Ronnie Coleman revealed everything his family did for him. Ronnie answered yes to the question, “Was it easy for you to be a professional bodybuilder and also maintain a family?” He said, “I think the reason why is my family supported me like 100%.” He added, “I mean, they were there, you know, doing everything for me. They helped clean my house, clean my cars.”

The King” also said, “My mom was cooking all my food. My sister was helping me with, you know, fan stuff.” Ronnie’s sister would help him reply to fans, and even help with mailing merchandise and pictures.

The eight-time Mr. Olympia also credited his family for being present during all his shows. Ronnie said that seeing his family in the audience during his first show felt great. Not only that, Ronnie added, “My first show till I retired. They were all there.”

Ronnie Coleman won the Mr. Olympia title eight times in a row, from 1998 to 2005. “The King” also won the Mr. Universe title in 1991. Ronnie pushed his body to the limit during training. As a result, he was unmatched in both size and conditioning.

When the interviewer asked Ronnie for his opinion about bodybuilding today, he answered immediately. Coleman said bodybuilding is easier now. “The King” said that now it’s easier to qualify for Mr. Olympia as well. Athletes get a lot more chances because now there are a lot more shows.

He also said since there were not as many shows or sponsors during the 90s, earning money was much harder as well.

Ronnie Coleman had changed bodybuilding forever by the time he retired in 2007. Many fans still consider him the best bodybuilder of all time. However, Ronnie believes none of it would’ve been possible without the support of his family.
