Back in the 1980s, bodybuilding great Rich Gaspari was a force to reckon with. His three consecutive Mr. Olympia runners-up results (1986–1988) prove just how much of a strong contender he was. But unfortunately, it was always ‘close but no cigar’ on the title for the American bodybuilder. He was also an avid advocate for bodybuilding, popularizing the sport with his videos. Here’s one from back then, which when he revisited it recently, wherein he qualified his acting performance to be worthy of one of the most prestigious honors ever.

Gaspari was one of the earlier bodybuilders to make workout videos inside the gym. However, he was specifically sincere in his performance in this one video. Looking back at it, he couldn’t help but make a sarcastic joke about himself.

Rich Gaspari took to his Instagram and posted a throwback video from back when he used to train for bodybuilding competitions. In it, he is training his muscles to full throttle and explaining it in great detail.

Alongside the clip, Gaspari wrote the caption, “From one of my videos back when I competed. Check out my acting? I should win an academy award these were the videotapes that I used to sell for instructional videos.” The laughing emojis he put in between weren’t amiss.

Those emojis certified that he was indeed making a carefree joke about his acting performance. Acting or not, the fact that his muscles were bulging out with popping veins, was as real as they come.

Rich Gaspari is 59 years old today, and he still manages to pop out those giant biceps after a workout session in the gym. He truly proves that age is just a number. He was even featured on the cover of Iron Man magazine in 2011 at the age of 48. This was 23 years after he was last featured on the cover of the magazine.

While Gaspari himself may poke fun at his past videos, one thing is for sure. The sincerity and determination with which veterans like Gaspari made these instructional videos, went a long way toward inspiring a generations to pick up bodybuilding long after they have retired.
