Chris Bumstead first won the Mr. Olympia Classic Physique championship in 2018. From there on, he made it a normal habit to win the title every year. The reigning world champion, who has won the title four times now, has a no-nonsense approach to living a healthy lifestyle. In an interview last year, his advice to a fan looking for any shortcuts to physical prowess was just straight from the shoulder.

In a YouTube clip from July 2022, Cbum, as he is endearingly called, read a question from a fan aloud. He sensed the want for an easier or quicker way to gain something from the question and immediately gave his stern response, looking at the camera.

The no-nonsense way to develop a body, as per Chris Bumstead

In the YouTube clip from his own channel, ‘Chris Bumstead’, he read the fan question, “Best tips for gaining weight?”. Cbum looked directly into the camera and said, “Stop being a little bit*h and eat your damn meals. There are zero secrets to gaining weight. You just have to eat”. Cbum’s use of an expletive here was not directed at the fan’s nature. It was instead aimed at the excuses we often make to rid ourselves of the hard way of achieving something.

A Classic physique superstar, Bumstead further went on to say, “If you have s**t genetics or great genetics depending on what you look at if your metabolism is super fast. You’re just gonna have to eat more. It’s just the name of the game,” a simple yet often skipped over advice by many youngsters who look for an easy way to get ahead in life. Bumstead continued, “Training really hard, really intense, recovering and eating is everything. It’s just how your body grows. If you are not putting stuff in, you’re not going to have anything to create muscle with”.

The idea of a large muscular body ripped to perfection often enamors viewers and fans alike. Bodybuilders, with their weight gain, and near-perfect body seems like a far stretch from any normal body. So, therefore, bodybuilders do often get asked such questions a lot. But Cbum’s very basic and direct answer hopefully set things straight for a lot of people, including the fan.

Chris Bumstead’s hard way of overcoming obstacles to a path of success

He finally concluded by saying, “So just eat. Don’t overthink it. Don’t look for secrets. Just do the hard s**t and grow”. However, it hasn’t always been a smooth ride for Bumstead himself. The 28-year-old hunk had a meltdown in his bathroom due to the health issues and injury he faced just days before the 2022 Mr. Olympia.

His biceps were swollen, and he was in pain. But with the determination that he has, as he has often proved (such as answering the fan’s question), he overcame those hurdles and won the competition anyway. However, he had to do some stem cell injections in his torn biceps after that.
