Daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a heartwarming note
On September 21, 2022, the world witnessed Alzheimer’s day filled with awareness campaigns. In light of this, Schwarzenegger’s eldest daughter, Katherine, recalled her grandfather by sharing his picture. Maria’s father, Robert Sargent Shriver Jr., was an activist and was related to the Kennedy family. In 2003, he lost his life to the disease.

While Katherine penned, “Today is World Alzheimer’s Day, and I’m thinking of my grandfather, who passed away from Alzheimer’s 11 years ago. I’m constantly inspired by all the work and awareness my mother, @mariashriver, brings to the disease through founding the @womensalzmovement, to look for answers and to help the millions in this world impacted by this disease.”

Sergent was a Former Peace Corps director, leader of the Special Olympics, and director of several War on Poverty initiatives. In addition, her father was also the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Since Sergent passed away, Maria, a journalist, was accustomed to posing queries and receiving responses. However, she acknowledges that she didn’t know much about Alzheimer’s. Also, it hit her hard when she noticed that nobody could answer her queries regarding the disease. Struggling with all the research and Q/A stuff, Maria took a great initiative to spread awareness.

Her son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, also joined hands with her in this good work. They launched MOSH, a nutrition company that is great for brain food. Additionally, in 2004, Maria penned a children’s book named, What’s Happening to Grandpa? Through this book, Shriver explained Alzheimer’s disease to kids. According to Shriver, the book was compiled with the help of her four kids’ conversation on the disease. Try giving it a read to understand Alzheimer’s disease better, and help others if needed.
