If you are a Formula 1 fan, then you must be aware of its super speedway track known as ‘Auto Club Speedway’ in Fontana, California. The 2-mile-long track has been hosting open-wheel racing events since 1997. Now, it’s been closer to three decades since the Fontana race track is anchoring the NASCAR events. However, long before the Auto Club got deconstructed into a racing track, it was an iron mill where the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger left the cliffhanger in the climax of his 1991 movie, ‘Terminator 2: Judgement day’.

After giving his fans a nail-biting performance in the 2nd installment of the Terminator film franchise, the Austrian again made a comeback with the third and final installment of the series in 2003. Therefore, in order to promote his sci-fi film, the Austrian walked down the nostalgic lane and graced the Formula 1 race at Auto Club in 2003. Not just that, the bodybuilder also waved the green flag to commence the race in the most iconic way. Now, the beloved track of F1 drivers is going to be sold at $544 million for the construction of the short track. Amidst the million-dollar deal, the 20-year-old video of the Austrian got resurfaced and gave F1 fans a ride on a roller coaster of emotions.

Arnold Schwarzenegger waved the open credits during the 2003 cup race at Auto Club

Recently, a NASCAR sports writer took to his Twitter to share a 2-decade-old video of the Austrian from the Fontana F1 racing field. In the video, the Terminator actor can be seen mimicking Darrell Waltrip’s famous catchphrase, but in the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger style.

Before waving the green flag, the Austrian said, “Boogity Boogity Boogity” in the same heavy accent that he chose for his movie ‘The Terminator’. Captioning the video, the NASCAR author penned, “Fox got Arnold Schwarzenegger to say “Boogity Boogity Boogity” before he waved the green flag for the 2003 Cup race at Fontana”. The 7x Mr. Olympia champion indeed made a splash among F1 fans through his commendable opening proclamation. 

First the Auto club Iron Mill then a prominent speedway, the Auto Club indeed holds an eminent status in the Formula 1 universe. Now, it’s just a matter of a few days until the Formula 1 world bids the racing trail goodbye.

F1 to bid farewell to Auto Club Speedway

The race track was first built by the motor sports company of Roger Penske in the year 1997. Interestingly, the construction of the asphalt track was completed with a total investment of US $100 million. Now, 26 years later, the 2-mile weathered asphalt track located in the sunny suburbs of Los Angeles is going to be sold at US $544 million for the short-track redesign.

From Terminator 2: Judgement day’s blockbuster climax to a multitude of Formula 1 races, the Auto Club Speedway came a long way. Now, as the track is bidding adieu to its pursuers, F1 fans and spectators are already missing their favorite Formula 1 arena. With the last ‘Boogity Boogity Boogity’ this Sunday, the F1 world will say its final goodbye to the Auto Club Speedway.
