Patrick Schwarzenegger felt emotions he never thought he would feel

Superhero films have been the cash cow of Hollywood for over a decade. After the record-shattering box office showing of Avengers (2012), live-action adaptations of comic book superhero movies now dominate the all-time highest-grossing films list. However, superhero cinema has also become formulaic, with post-credit scenes and Disney+ shows connecting one movie to another.

In fact, the repeated use of the once-unique trope has drawn criticism from legendary filmmakers like Martin Scorsese and James Cameron. Hence moviegoers, to some extent, know what to expect from a big-budget Hollywood superhero movie. However, for Patrick Schwarzenegger, James Gunn’s final Guardians of the Galaxy movie shattered all expectations.

In the open letter, Hollywood stars like Pratt and Dave Bautista wrote to Disney about using Gunn’s script for Volume 3, yet not keeping him at the helm. According to a report by a Hollywood Reporter, even the ex-wife of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Pratt’s mother-in-law, Maria Shriver helped him write the letter. The appeal resulted in Gunn being reinstated at the helm of the threequel. However, GOTG Vol. 3 was Gunn’s final film with Marvel.
