The 2023 NCAA International has kicked off on March 14, giving the best mid-school basketball teams a chance to shine. Popularly known as March Madness, the tournament stirs excitement among celebrities as well. Recently, seven-time Mr.Olympia and a former basketball player, Phil Heath, expressed his excitement for the game and the lesson that these basketball teams give out.

A few hours ago, the bodybuilding legend shared a video on March Madness on his Instagram. Talking about the basketball teams appearing in the game, ‘The Gift’ discussed the importance of teamwork in a team and life.

Phil Heath discusses how teamwork can help in personal life

For the unversed, Phil Heath was a skilled basketball player in his high school. In fact, he was the team captain and shooting guard of his team. Nevertheless, he was able to enroll himself at the University of Denver through his athletic scholarship. However, he could not dominate the wooden floor as he did in bodybuilding. Hence, he soon made a switch which proved to be a great decision.

‘The Gift’ keeps his basketball enthusiasm alive by following several matches. The game has also taught him a few lessons that he recently expressed in his Instagram video. Heath expressed that to make the best team, one does not need the best players. Instead, one needs the spirit of teamwork among the players.

The bodybuilder stated that there are several things to watch out for in a game. Things like defense, following the coach’s strategies, delivering proper passes and shooting to basket the ball. All of these require good teamwork to work out. Also, staying positive with the team and cheering for each other even when the game is not going right heavily determine the energy in the team.

Talking about teamwork in basketball, Heath mentioned how can one utilize the spirit of teamwork in their personal life. He explained that it is important for us to root for our family members along with self-work. We must ensure accountability for our own actions.

He explained, “Because no one likes a false prophet. But they do love a great teammate, a person that has the willingness to strive for the better for themselves and for better.” At last, he concluded his speech by saying, “Give out a key assist this week to somebody that needs it, help them score, and I promise it will back around, and you will experience a level of triumph that you have not had in the past.”

Phil Heath’s journey from basketball to bodybuilding

Phil Heath had an athletic childhood. While attending Rainier Beach High School, he expressed his interest in basketball and joined the school. In fact, when he was pursuing his degree in business administration and IT at the University of Denver, he continued playing basketball.

While playing, he discovered the weight room. Heath began weightlifting to improve his jumping power and presence on the basketball court. Later on, Heath became tired of basketball as he realized that the sport would not give him the greatness he desires. Hence, he immersed himself in the culture of bodybuilding, whenever he got time. In 2002, he seriously began weightlifting, and the rest is history.
