Not Mr. Olympia, but Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Event Was Jay Cutler’s ‘Ultimate Title’ in Bodybuilding Due to the Rare Prize Awarded

Retired American bodybuilder, Jay Cutler, is known to be one of the best athletes in the history of the sport. The 4X Mr. Olympia was famously known for his quadriceps, and the quad-stomp pose.

However, before winning the prestigious title, Cutler won the Arnold Classic title for three consecutive years. In the past, Cutler had said that winning Arnold Schwarzenegger’s event was more important to him than winning the Olympia title.

Why did Jay Cutler think Arnold Classic was the ‘Ultimate Title’?

In 2002, during an interview with the journalist, Lonnie Teper, the interviewer asked Cutler, if he was going to compete at the 2003 Olympia. Cutler, who had not won any Olympia title back then, said he was unsure.

According to Cutler, Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s event – Arnold Classic, was much better than Mr. Olympia because of the prize money. “I feel right now that the Arnold Classic has the reputation of being the ultimate title in bodybuilding,” was Cutler’s reply to the question.

According to the report, Mr. Olympia granted $110,000 to the winners, whereas Arnold’s event awarded $100,000. This was a major reason why Cutler felt Arnold Classic was the ‘Ultimate Title’ in bodybuilding in those days. Cutler said, “I’m going to train for the biggest prize’$100,000 and a Hummer.”

In 2002, Cutler went on to win his first Arnold Classic title. He then went on to win the title for two more years. Later, in 2006, Cutler also won his first-ever Mr. Olympia title.

What is Arnold Classic?

Arnold Classic is a part of the Arnold Sports Festival, established in 1989. The event was named after legend Arnold Schwarzenegger and is considered the second most prestigious event in men’s bodybuilding. The festival also held the Arnold Classic International competition, in Europe, Asia, South America, and other continents.

Due to its vast reach and big prize money, Cutler and many other bodybuilders believe it to be better than Mr. Olympia.
