In 2014, YouTuber John David Glaude shared his dramatic weight loss journey with his subscribers. Glaude, better known as Obese to Beast, runs a YouTube channel with the same name. The American man built a 160 lbs physique through bodybuilding workouts and diet. While his epic transformation inspired many, it also made him insecure about one aspect of his dream physique. On November 9, 2014, Glaude decided to share his “biggest” insecurity with his YouTube audience.

However, the man who once weighed 360 lbs had no idea his video would go viral, garnering millions of views. He also couldn’t guess his honest confession would become a polarizing topic of discussion on the internet.

Glaude’s biggest insecurity garnered him the most views

In the video, the fitness YouTuber summarized his journey. Glaude went from weighing 360 lbs to losing 160 lbs and achieving his dream physique. However, Glaude also clarified the side effect of losing so much weight made him insecure. “Being really, really overweight… make you self-conscious,” said Glaude. “Losing the weight. I’m not as self-conscious,” he added.

However, he also said his previous statement was only true while wearing clothes. The fitness YouTuber revealed, despite putting on muscle and getting abs, he wasn’t comfortable being shirtless. “So I’m comfortable clothes I’m not that comfortable, unclothed,” said the fitness influencer. Glaude then took off his shirt to reveal the source of his “biggest insecurity,” his loose skin.

Since Glaude weighed 360 lbs, the body fat caused his skin to stretch. However, since he dropped 160 lbs and lost most of his body fat, his skin became loose. Known for creating an impact for his honesty, many praised the Youtuber for exposing his insecurity to the world. Some, however, had mixed reactions. The comments section soon became heated, which led to the bodybuilder switching off his comments. While insane weight loss stories have become more common today, Glaude was among the first to openly talk about his loose skin on the internet.

Bodybuilding, CrossFit, and loose skin

Many people who have lost insane weight have also opted to remove their loose skin through surgery. However, the fitness YouTuber hasn’t taken that route. In 2020 John David Glaude uploaded a video to his YouTube channel titled I Have Lived With Loose Skin for 5 Years (My Real Thoughts). In the video, the fitness influencer said, “I am a happy person. I am happy with my body,”

Glaude has also included CrossFit in his workout regimen. While he still does bodybuilding workouts, Glaude’s Instagram page contains numerous videos of him working out in CrossFit boxes.
