In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, the former California governor, revealed that the question of Republican or Democrat never really came up in family conversations. He said, “It’s never really come up in any conversation that someone in her family said, you shouldn’t be a republican or you shouldn’t vote for president Bush or you shouldn’t go out and rally for him. Never, because I would never say it to them.”

However, before saying that, he jokingly mentioned, “We have absolutely no problem, Maria and I about this whole thing. Especially since I am sleeping in a garage (the audience started laughing).”

Though it’s a beautiful understanding between Maria Shriver’s family and Arnold about respecting each other’s individual opinions.

What makes Arnold feel proud of his marriage?

Although Arnold and Shriver separated after 25 years of marriage, the bodybuilding legend has some fond memories of his time with his ex-wife. In fact, he considers being a Republican and marrying into a democratic family a huge achievement. In one of his earlier interviews, the seven-time Mr. Olympia revealed his political epiphany came in 1968 when he followed president Nixon in the elections.

“I’ve been a Republican ever since!” he said. “And trust me, in my wife’s family, that’s no small achievement!” Although surely Arnold meant it as a joke, was he hiding something behind that statement? Perhaps only he can tell. However, their relationship was beyond the political ideologies they represented. It might have been a topic of intrigue for others, but different political inclinations were never a conflicting force between the two or their family.
