Rich Gaspari was among the best bodybuilders of his time. The bodybuilding legend made his mark on the Mr. Olympia stage when he was just 22 years old. At Gaspari’s first Mr. Olympia contest, he was placed third. While the bodybuilder never won the title, he would finish runner-up three times in his bodybuilding career. Since retiring from the spot, Gaspari has been a constant voice in the bodybuilding community. In the latest episode of his podcast, the 59-year-old discussed the effect of aging and shared his anti-aging secrets.

How to slow down aging according to the bodybuilding legend
It is natural that the body loses muscle and strength due to the natural process of aging since aging is something “that just happens.” According to the former competitive bodybuilder, “after age 45, 50, 60, it (aging) accelerates.” While Gaspari didn’t know the specific compounds his co-host took, the bodybuilding legend guessed Romano was on TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) or peptides.

However, Gaspari also suggested two ways that counteract the muscle-wasting effects of aging. The first obvious secret is taking hormones. The former IFFB Pro revealed that testosterone helps counteract aging. The second compound that Gaspari talked about was GH (growth hormone). Bodybuilders often use testosterone and growth hormone, among other compounds, to put on muscle mass.

The Dragon Slayer also suggested that “you can slow it (aging) down” with a mix of both weight training and concentration upkeep of GH and testosterone. Romano doubled down on Gaspari’s suggestions as the former revealed that he was on the same compounds. On the contrary, John Romano then discussed why he didn’t use new-age compounds that modern bodybuilders use.

Modern bodybuilders can’t compete with the 90s look?
John Romano told Rich Gaspari that he takes “testosterone replacement one shot a week and I take about two IUs of growth hormone a day, five days a week.” Sometimes, Romano adds around 300 mg of equipoise to the mix as per what Dan Duchaine taught him back in the 90s.

However, he didn’t switch to modern compounds because even with modern technology, bodybuilders “don’t look as they looked in the 90s.” Romano also said that no one has eclipsed the conditioning 90s bodybuilders had. Gaspari, known for his conditioning, recently faced backlash for comparing Dorian Yates with current Mr. Olympia Hadi Choopan.
