In a section titled The Hops That Give Hope, the former politician said, “Scientists might appreciate beer more than you think.” According to the former Mr. Olympia, Italian scientists recently made a significant discovery. Hops flower extract, a compound found in beer, might play a role in fending off the life-threatening Alzheimer’s disease. However, one can’t just chug pints of beer, as the hops have to be extracted from the beer.

Since then, Maria Shriver has poured resources to empower research dedicated to finding a solution for Alzheimer’s disease. Besides her efforts to bolster resources, Shriver also works to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s disease.

The couple’s eldest son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, has joined his mother on her crusade against the disease. The mother-son has even launched a brand focused on boosting brain health. Like his family, Arnold Schwarzenegger has also directly contributed to Alzheimer’s research.
