Bodybuilding legend Lou Ferrigno has also had a prestigious career in the line of acting. Lou Ferrigno played the ‘Incredible Hulk’ himself and acted in the TV series from 1977-1982. As a child, Ferrigno liked the Hulk because of the powers he had. Because of his remarkable physique, he also acted in the movie ‘Hercules‘ in 1983. Despite enjoying his role as Roman mythology’s Hercules, he apparently didn’t like some things that happened behind his back.

Lou Ferrigno hails from Brooklyn, New York. During his childhood, he was diagnosed with 80–85% hearing loss. This had a major impact on his life. As a child with an abusive father, Ferrigno still managed to pursue bodybuilding and followed his passion. He has achieved IFBB, Mr. Universe, two consecutive times.  Currently, he is enjoying his retirement.

A thing that bothered Lou Ferrigno

“It was a shame that they chose to dub my voice in Hercules.” Ferrigno said and continued, “That was unnecessary and it would have been much more of a classic if they hadn’t.”

While he would have preferred to keep his voice original, the filmmakers of Hercules had a different notion. Because Lou Ferrigno was unable to deliver some dialogue due to his inability, the filmmakers decided to dub his voice. Because of the hearing loss, he was not able to speak properly, and he did feel bad about it.

“Regardless, I loved the cast and the environment of every production I was on,” Ferrigno added. Despite the issue, he had fun while working on the movie, and it was a hit indeed. With a budget of $6 million, the movie made a whopping $11 million at the box office.

Ferrigno, throughout his acting and bodybuilding career, has faced issues because of his hearing. He has lost a lot of roles that were offered to him because of it.

The improper hearing made Ferrigno’s life difficult as he faced a lot of bullies in school because he was considered to be an outcast.

Despite losing a lot of film offers, Ferrigno never learned the taste of defeat. He kept moving forward in his life and now is a living example to the deaf and fitness community.

Lou Ferrigno got a cochlear implant in 2021 and he has been a lot happier ever since. Now, with advanced technology, he can hear much more easily now.
