Still Ripped at Age 75, Arnold Schwarzenegger Bashed “Muscles Turn Into Fat” Myth in His Younger Days

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a stronghold in the bodybuilding community. The legend reigned as a champion throughout various competitions and is a respected athlete. He went on to etch his name in the bodybuilding hall of fame while preparing himself for Hollywood. Before his docudrama ‘Pumping Iron’ was released, Arnold in 1975 sat down to talk about the general perception of bodybuilders and certain myths surrounding them.

Arnold addressed how people saw bodybuilders in the gym and explained an athlete’s point of view. He also spoke about the various myths surrounding bodybuilders and their physiques. While the champion is now 75 years old, he remains in great shape and form.

Arnold Schwarzenegger debunks myths about change in build

The legend started by sharing his experience about how people saw bodybuilders in the gym. He addressed a popular myth about bodybuilding as a sport that might still plague the minds of many. Do muscles grow fat when athletes stop training? Arnold said ‘no‘. The legend talked about how people thought that once a bodybuilder stopped training, their bodies fell apart. He explained, “that’s obviously wrong because muscles never turn into fat”.

When a bodybuilder puts a considerable amount of work into sculpting their body, they won’t disintegrate that easily. And given that Arnold Schwarzenegger is still in excellent shape and form even in current times, there is some truth to this. The champion still trains intensely, with ample cardio and weights integrated into his routine.

Arnold also detailed other misconceptions that the fans had in terms of bodybuilding. He called out people who thought that bodybuilders were narcissistic because they looked at mirrors a lot. He explained that bodybuilders tend to do that to check the progress they made. A huge part of bodybuilding involves muscle awareness and checking on progress.

While this interview took place in 1975, even before ‘Pumping Iron’ was released, it’s still relevant in the current times. Bodybuilding is a tough sport to crack. It involves insane amounts of dedication and discipline to make it. Legends like Arnold Schwarzenegger are still in great shape due to their commitment to the sport.
