When it comes to bodybuilding, Lou Ferrigno needs no introduction. He has demonstrated his talent not only in bodybuilding but also in acting. Lou Ferrigno is none other than the Incredible Hulk. Despite suffering from 80 to 85% hearing loss since he was a kid, he has proven himself. Ferrigno is currently an inspiration to the deaf community. He has never tasted the glory of Mr. Olympia, but is also a distinctive figure in the bodybuilding community.

In an interview from 2019, Lou Ferrigno reveals something about his role in The Incredible Hulk. Ferrigno, who stands tall at 6’5″, revealed that he could have looked bigger. The bodybuilding beast confirmed that the makeup was the reason his body mass was hidden. It is really astonishing to think how much bigger Ferrigno really looks!

The real point of makeup

Surely, Lou Ferrigno wanted to look bigger, to look even scarier than he really was. Even Hulk has a scarier personality in general. It looks like the bodybuilding beast wanted to blend into the character fully.

When Ferrigno was asked whether he would have looked much bigger and cuter without the makeup, he replied, “Oh yeah, by far, by far,” and continued, “It would have been scary.” That’s a clear-cut answer, as he is already 6’5″ tall. As a bodybuilder, he was ripped during his prime, and he could have fully blended into the Hulk character if it weren’t for the makeup. 

Ferrigno, as per the above tweet, not only hates makeup but also the use of CGI. He wants everything, even the character, to be performed by a real enthusiast who can properly blend into the character.

The real reason why Lou Ferrigno likes Hulk so much

Ferrigno, when he was just three years old, was diagnosed with 80–85% hearing loss. It was really difficult for him to live like a normal kid as he faced bullying in school. With the lack of attention from his father, he became power-hungry.

The power-hungry Ferrigno proceeded to take an interest in comic book characters and one of them was Hulk. The huge green giant alien who can destroy anything in his way really caught his eye. He also wanted to be as strong as him so that nobody would be able to stop him.

Finally, in 1977, Lou Ferrigno was offered to play the role of Hulk in the series the Incredible Hulk. It was a dream come true for the bodybuilding beast!
