“That’s the Way”- Arnold Schwarzenegger Recalls Bizarre Way the Terminator Was Shot Due to Financial Constraints

Arnold Schwarzenegger has become a big shot in the film industry since retiring from bodybuilding in 1980. People deem his movies to be blockbusters even before their release. However, his acting career was not as fruitful when he first started.

The bodybuilder-turned-actor rose to fame with the release of movies like Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator, and Commando. These movies found their way to the theaters within a short period.

Arnold Schwarzenegger did a bizarre take while shooting The Terminator

Schwarzenegger became a household name with the release of these movies. It helped establish himself as an action star. However, there is a movie even among these films that helped Arnie reach the celebrity status that he enjoys even today.

The film was none other than The Terminator, the first installment of the Terminator franchise. It allowed him to assert his dominion in the action genre. In the movie, the Austrian Oak plays the role of T-800, a cyborg sent from the future.

During an interview, James Cameron revealed the severe constraints on the movie’s budget. The director states that the movie had a budget of just $6.5 million. And Schwarzenegger’s experience during its shooting corroborated the director’s statements. The action star described how they shot the film during the interview.

Reflecting on the specific day of the shoot, he said, “I remember one time I got out the car and they said: ‘Go across the street here on Sunset [Boulevard], and punch the window of car. We need the shot.”

The actor continued, “So I walked across the street and looked Terminator-esque and then looked around and – boom – punched through the window and reached inside.” Then, the star added, “That’s the way we shot the first movie.”

The cops arrived at the scene shortly after to investigate the matter. However, the actors did not enumerate the following events during the interview.

The difference of his role in the movie’s sequels

The former Mr. Olympia played the role of the antagonist in the first film. However, he reprised the role in subsequent movies to become the protagonist. Although the director made the movie on a small budget, it was a box office success upon its release.

However, the sequels had a different fate owing to the first movie’s success. Sometimes big-budget movies fail to impress the general masses while low-budget films hit the mark. Therefore, budgets play a small role in a movie’s making.
