As a competitor, promoter, and author, Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s contribution to bodybuilding is unparalleled. The book, “The New Encyclopaedia of Bodybuilding,” appeared on the shelves in 1985. The guide has gone on to inspire millions of people with its scientific approach and aesthetic perspective on bodybuilding. Arnie’s son, Joseph Baena, is no exception.

Baena began pumping iron during his college days. Witnessing himself transform from being overweight, to developing a chiseled physique gave him a renewed self-image. While his legendary bodybuilder dad was just a phone call away, he chose to figure it out himself.

Arnold Schwarzenegger insisted that Baena read the book

Having developed a strong hold on the intricacies of muscle building during his peak in the 70s, the 7x Mr. Olympia co-authored the book, bringing the best of his knowledge under one roof. It covers workout routines, exercises, diet regimes, supplements, and more. Besides describing every muscle, it also teaches how to train each of them.

In a 2022 interview with Men’s Health, Baena revealed that Schwarzenegger gave him the book when he was younger. After the news broke out about Baena’s birth, he took a while to bond with his father, Schwarzenegger. Interestingly, their common subject of interest, fitness, broke the ice.

The father and son discussed bodybuilding; Arnie would ask, “Did you read it in the encyclopedia?” According to Baena, filled with curiosity, “I would go back into the encyclopedia, open it up. The answers are right there.”, the book served as the one-stop place for his queries. Moreover, he described the book as “the biggest help I could ever get.”

From the book to the big stage?

Baena has been seen putting serious work into building a jacked body and also developing theoretical and practical knowledge. As hinted by Arnie in 2019, one can hope that Baena will take his father’s legacy forward.

Baena has already made heads turn with his stunning poses, reminding fans of his father. As an actor, bodybuilder and real-estate agent, Baena is exploring different fields with his multi-talented persona. This time again, bringing back the memories of Schwarzenegger’s journey. Don’t you think so?
