Discipline is the path Arnold Schwarzenegger chose to achieve greatness. Contrary to his adventurous spirit to redefine his status in his professional life, the former bodybuilding champion follows a structured lifestyle. The Austrian Oak’s successful career speaks volumes about his unfazed work and spirit as a result of being disciplined.

To pass it on to his future generations, he taught those values to his children through his parenting approach. In a chat with Katherine, his eldest daughter, the Governator recounted the tricks the naughty brats played to evade work.

Arnold Schwarzenegger replicates his upbringing

The former governor of California grew up in a strict household. Although the Austrian-born relocated to a different country and embraced his lifestyle, he stuck to his roots. Schwarzenegger was a disciplinarian father with his children at a young age.

Father of four, the kids in the Schwarzenegger-Shriver household had to do some household chores, and there were no two options. However, similar to kids their age, they had their plans. Conversing about the same with Katherine, he said, “There was always some cheating going on.”

Katherine couldn’t agree more and laughed it off as her super-cool dad went on recollecting the moments. The kids had to do their laundry, put the clothes for drying, make their bed and wash the dishes as part of their daily routine. And when they were found to be flouting the rules, Schwarzenegger unleashed the Terminator side of him. 

When Schwarzenegger was enraged

The kids didn’t know that cheating on the Commando star wasn’t a good idea until they witnessed the consequences first-hand. When Schwarzenegger found out that the maid had secretly washed their bedsheets, “I was so angry, so I went into the room I pulled the fresh pair sheets off, took the mattress, dragged it out the door of the balcony and threw the mattress down the balcony.”

Since “each one of you had some kind of a shortcoming,” he devised some punishments. Though the children despised the chores, Katherine admitted that the strict upbringing had shaped her career and life. Both their parents, Schwarzenegger and Shriver, were on the page regarding teaching children discipline at a young age. Besides being grateful and appreciative, she also emulates the same parenting style as a mother of two daughters.
