Many fans regard Ronnie Coleman as one the best bodybuilders to step onto the Mr. Olympia stage. During Ronnie’s prime, he was the biggest bodybuilder on stage and yet somehow was also the best-conditioned. The former champion retired in 2007. However, he has also found success outside of bodybuilding with his supplement business. In 2016, Ronnie was asked for his opinion on competing with past rivals who were also getting into the supplement industry.

The eight-time Mr. Olympia gave his opinion without hesitation. However, in doing so he also shared an important insight on brand building to ensure success.

Ronnie Coleman on competing with past rivals in the supplement industry

Muscle & Strength’s Roger Lockridge interviewed Ronnie Coleman, in 2016. The interview focused mostly on Ronnie’s life post-back surgery. However, Lockridge also asked, if so many bodybuilders flooding into the supplement business can succeed. Ronnie said“It’s going to depend on how they market themselves and their brands. If they do their business the right way, then they will see success.”

The King also warned, “If not, they’re going to fail pretty quick.” Many of these bodybuilders have been rivals on stage.

The interviewer then mentioned, “Your biggest rival was Jay Cutler and you both have your own brands.” And also said that even Phil Heath and Kai Greene have stepped into the supplement industry. The eight-time Mr. Olympia responded by saying, “One big difference between me and some of the others like Jay, Phil, and Kai is I am actually a majority owner of my company. I’m involved with a lot.”

The interviewer also asked Coleman about upcoming products. The King said that his company would soon launch the “Ain’t Nothing But a Peanut” protein and the “Yeah Buddy” pre-workout. He also hinted that Ronnie Coleman Signature Series would make more announcements in the future.

Since then, Coleman’s supplement company has only grown. The Ronnie Coleman Signature series has expanded to different countries worldwide and come out with many products. As of 2022, Ronnie’s company has also launched the Yeah Buddy personal training app for mobile devices. Jay Cutler‘s supplement line has also found a fair amount of success.

International Sports Hall of Fame induction

In 2016, Ronnie Coleman made his way into the International Sports Hall of Fame. Ronnie expressed that he felt honored. Royce Gracie and Kurt Angle were also part of the class of 2016. Coleman is now part of an exclusive club with the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Evander Holyfield, Ronda Rousey, and more.

“King Coleman” has found success both on and off the bodybuilding stage. Running a multi-million dollar business is no easy task. However, the former champion has become a successful entrepreneur, even, though multiple surgeries have taken their toll on his health. Coleman’s company is showing no sign of slowing down.
