Recently the World’s Strongest Man winner Eddie Hall started his podcast channel, Feast With The Beast Podcast, on YouTube. On January 4, fellow strongman Evan Singleton joined the Beast for the second episode of his fledgling podcast. The pair discussed the career trajectory of Evan Singleton. However, near the end of the podcast, Singleton revealed his struggle with mental health issues and how he nearly ended his life on multiple occasions. His confession surprised Hall. Hall asked Singleton if he would be comfortable sharing the details of his story on the podcast.

Evan Singleton obliged the World’s Strongest Man winner and opened up about his mental health struggles. The American strongman competitor also told Hall how he overcame the mental health issues that plagued him. However, Singleton’s story moved Hall to tears, and he revealed how mental health issues have also left their mark on the WSM winner’s life.

How Evan Singleton struggled and eventually beat mental health issues

What makes the Feast with the Beast Podcast unique is how Eddie Hall makes his guest feel at home. Hall and his guest sit on a couch and snack on food while chatting. However, Hall and Singleton’s conversation took a dark turn when Singleton revealed he had nearly ended his life multiple times. “I’ve tried to kill myself more than once… I was two times going to jump, and one time I had a gun in my mouth.” said the strongman.

Singleton said once he had tried to jump off a building, while on his second attempt, he tried to jump off a bridge. However, the strongman competitor also said he talked himself out of jumping to his death. Singleton said he didn’t realize, “The s**t situation that I was in was just making my mental health decline. Feeling stuck, feeling just trapped…”

Evan Singleton said he ran out of ideas and felt the only way to escape the situation was to take his life. However, after multiple attempts, the strongman spent three days on suicide watch. He didn’t have any freedom during that time. However, Singleton felt it was better than not having any help. “You’ve got your health, you’ve got your youth, you’ve got your family, friends, parents…” said Singleton.

How mental health issues have had a lasting impact on Eddie Hall

After hearing the story of a fellow strongman, the WSM winner broke down in tears. The Beast also revealed that mental health struggles have also affected his life. While Hall didn’t struggle with mental health issues, he has lost three friends to suicide in the last two years. Hall said, “Men can’t open up,” because of the stigma around mental health.
