Think of bodybuilding, and the first name that comes to mind is Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Austrian-born bodybuilder is one of the most important reasons behind the popularity of the sport. A seven-time Mr. Olympia winner, Schwarzenegger, has spent a lot of time in the gym. He knows what it takes to go from an amateur to a title-winning bodybuilder.

Everyone is a beginner at one point in their lives, and so was Arnold. Having gone through that phase, Arnold knows it could be hard for some people to know what exercises to do and what to avoid.
Arnold Schwarzenegger teaches a beginner’s course on exercising
As a bodybuilder, there would be nothing better than to have the legendary Arnold Schwarzenegger as your trainer. While that is a thought for the dreams, one can still have the next best thing – Arnold teaching some basic exercises on video. He once taught beginner bodybuilders how to build muscles by doing some basic exercises.
Before showing the exercises, Schwarzenegger told why he got into weight training and bodybuilding. Arnold said he got into it because he loved weight training. As a soccer player, he did weight training exercises and loved them. He fell in love with the feeling of being strong and also had the dream of winning the Mr. Universe title.
Moving on, Arnold showed three exercises that are crucial for all beginners. First came the bench press – Arnold took a bar of about 65pounds and lay on his chest. He then showed how to do the exercise perfectly, with the bar touching his chest before pushing it back up. Next came squats, and Arnold used the same bar to add weight to the demonstration. Finally came bicep curls. Schwarzenegger showed how to correctly do the curls to maximize gains from the exercise.
Arnold also talked about the strenuous training session professional bodybuilders go through right before competitions. He said they lift an average of 50 tonnes of weight in a day to gain body mass. Talking about the pain they go through, Arnold said it acts as the separator between those who do it for health and fitness and those who do it professionally.
Arnold’s diet as a professional bodybuilder
While talking about bodybuilding, one key aspect of training is having a proper diet. With an improper diet, even the best trainers cannot bring out the best possible results. Being the best in the business, a prime Arnold Schwarzenegger had a high protein diet.

In his prime, Arnold ate five to six meals in a day, and his calories peaked at 3825 in a day. His diet had a variety of dishes. In the morning, he ate a bowl of cereal, 2 slices of toast, 2 tsp butter, 1 cup of orange juice, two strips of bacon, and coffee, plain and black. For lunch, he enjoyed a 6-inch sub with 4oz sliced turkey, 2oz cheese, 2 tbsp mayonnaise, lettuce, and tomato.

Meanwhile, for dinner, he ate 1 small chicken breast (skinless), two cups of rice, one small dinner salad, and ice cream for a snack. This is the incredible diet Arnold followed that helped him become one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time.
