The romantic affairs of celebrities have been a topic of gossip and interest among the masses. Specifically, in the bodybuilding field, Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been the talk of the town. Throughout his various affairs, the former bodybuilder’s ex-girlfriend revealed why things didn’t work out with him.

Arnold’s ex from his early 20s recalled their 6-year-long relationship. Barbara Outland and Arnold Schwarzenegger met when the former bodybuilder moved to the US. During an interview in 2003, she revealed the real reason why they broke up.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was too focused

The icon began dating college student Barbara Outland in 1969. They eventually moved in and had a good time with each other. However, as time went by, Arnold grew more and more serious about his bodybuilding dream. In 1970, the star won his first Mr. Olympia and would go on to win more, in the following years. The star bodybuilder began focussing more on his career and could not juggle between his ambitions and his romance.

Barbara opened up in an interview, talking about how nothing could get in between the bodybuilder and his goals. Unfortunately, not even his relationship.

She explained “I was in his shadow… I just wanted to get married and have children. But he was someone with so much focus, nothing could get in his way.” The pair eventually broke up after six years of being together.

Talking about his relationship with Barbara, Arnold revealed how they wanted different things in life. While his ex-girlfriend wanted to settle down and live an ordinary life, he was at the height of his bodybuilding career. Unfortunately, the goals didn’t align and the couple had to go their separate ways.

The bodybuilder has since been in and out of many other relationships. The star married journalist Maria Shriver in 1986. However, during that time, he also had an extra-marital affair with his housekeeper, Mildred Baena. He currently has 4 children with Maria Shriver and a son with Mildred.
