Not many bodybuilders have been able to surprise and defeat Ronnie Coleman. However, Flex Wheeler was one of the rare bodybuilding champions to achieve this feat. In a recent interview with ‘The Strong Cast’, Coleman finally disclosed how Flex Wheeler managed to stay ahead of him. 

The 8X Olympia champion also said what Flex Wheeler did differently as compared to him. Along with this, Coleman also shared about the first competition he won and his Olympia journey.

Ronnie Coleman’s frank admissions about Flex Wheeler and his bodybuilding career 

“I actually learned a lot from Flex Wheeler”, Ronnie Coleman admitted. Continuing, he narrated that when he was in Paris, Wheeler had just won the Arnold Classic title. This refers to the Arnold Classic competition Wheeler won in 1998.

Continuing, Coleman described Wheeler’s dominance in the sport. “He was winning every show we went to.. in Paris…in Germany.” He recalled, wondering, “What the hell he’s doing?” Later, he decided to have a chat with Flex Wheeler to find out his secret.

Afterwards, Coleman spoke about how Flex Wheeler told his diet which made him draw comparisons with his own. “I’m just doing regular vitamins, y’all doing supervisor.” This seemingly indicates the fact that Wheeler took additional supplements like glutamine and BCAA.

Later, Coleman remembered with nostalgia the first show he won in 1995. Further, Coleman spoke about how he again participated in the Olympia after winning this show where he secured 11th place. These words reflect Coleman’s arduous journey in the sport before becoming an 8X Olympia champion. 

Ronnie Coleman’s views on Flex Wheeler’s genetics

During a 2020 interview, the 8X Olympia champion praised Flex Wheeler’s genetics.I think Flex had the best genetics in the world, but I kinda outworked him.” However, he also added that to have good genes, it is important to work very hard as well. While through these words he gives Wheeler due credit for his physique, he smartly praises himself as well.
