Lou Ferrigno is a bodybuilding legend. Ferrigno shot to fame after starring opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger in ‘Pumping Iron. While he never became Mr. Olympia, the American holds two Mr. Universe titles.

However, Lou really became popular after starring as the Hulk from 1977 to 1982. At 6’5 Ft, 280 lbs Ferrigno was a big man, even bigger than his Mr. Olympia rival Arnold. So when a group of teenagers once made fun of his son, Ferrigno stepped up to defend him.

That is what Lou Ferrigno Jr.’s bullies must have felt when his dad approached them.

When did Lou Ferrigno confront a group of bullies?

In a 2021 interview, Lou Ferrigno Jr. answered how his dad once shut down his bullies. Ferrigno Jr. said: “When I was about 11, our family was at the Fashion Café in New York City. My foot was in a cast, and I was limping.”

He said that a group of teenagers was laughing and “One of them got up and was limping, making fun of me.” After his sister saw what was happening, she told their dad about the incident.

After asking his daughter: “Where are they?”

Lou Ferrigno walked up to the table, full of teenagers, and said: “Which one of you made fun of my son?”

Even though there were seven to eight kids and a father, they all froze. Lou then said: “Don’t you ever make fun of my son again!”

None of them protested or tried to talk back to the former Mr. Universe. Lou Ferrigno clarified: “I wasn’t really angry. I just knew I had to say something. Some of them, I’m pretty sure, peed in their pants.”

The former bodybuilder also recalled that, in the heat of the moment, he’d forgotten how intimidating he could look. Lou also said that when he got angry: “People would think I was becoming the Hulk.” However, The Hulk actor never thought like that and saw himself as a: “Regular guy.”

Suffering from hearing loss

During Lou’s prime, he gave Arnold a run for his money. Even at 70, Lou Ferrigno looks jacked. However, few people know Lou suffered from hearing loss since he was a baby. The ‘Hulk’ lost almost 80% of his hearing because of an infection and used hearing aids since the age of five.

However, Lou said that the condition made him more determined and strengthened his character. In 2021, Ferrigno got an implant to fix his hearing.

The former Mr. Universe and ‘The Incredible Hulk’ Lou Ferrigno is an intimidating figure. While Lou could have easily threatened his son’s bullies, he didn’t. Ferrigno simply calmly defended his family and gave a stern warning to the teenagers. As a father, Lou set a great example for his kids.
