Arnold Schwarzenegger is a self-made man. Son of an Austrian police officer, Arnold dedicated his life to bodybuilding when the sport was not that popular. Triumphing many odds, the former army officer, over the course, held on to many roles that he played with perfection.

However, there’s one role where Arnold faced some setbacks with. Arnold as a husband may not have been perfect. His scandalous affair with househelp, Mildred Baena blew off his marriage with Maria. Despite the adversities, Arnold still carries a deep respect for Maria. In his book, “Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story,” Arnold shared some heartwarming moments with his now ex-wife.

House hunting trip that turned memorable

There’s no question that Arnold and Maria, in their years of companionship, were a power couple. Proud parents of four kids, the couple shared many memories together. One such memory was that of a house hunting trip.

Speaking of the incident, Arnold narrates how on one such occasion, the real-estate agent asked the couple, “Do you know who lived here? Gloria Swanson!” He further adds how the agent showed them around the basement. Interestingly it had a tunnel that led to another house. The agent informed that Joe Kennedy used it to meet with his then-love interest.

Arnold could not help but add how Maria later asked, “Why did she show us this?” According to Arnold, Maria was “fascinated and partly mad and embarrassed.” Maria and Arnold may not have had a happy marriage, but their friendship stands unbreakable. 

It was love at first sight for Arnold Schwarzenegger

The seven-time Mr. Olympia title holder and Hollywood megastar, Arnold Schwarzenegger, was smitten by Maria’s beauty. Coming from the elite family of The Kennedy, Maria, by that time, had successfully carved out her own identity in television journalism.

The couple first met at a celebrity tennis tournament; after their courtship, they eventually decided to take things to the next level. The love birds got married in 1986. The marriage, unfortunately, did not last, but there’s no taking away the love and respect that they shared.
