The global fame of champion bodybuilder Arnold Schwarzenegger often comes at a cost. Even a minor happening within the Schwarzenegger household makes the news quickly. It leads to the family fighting a battle on personal as well as the public end. One such instance was when Arnold’s affair and the news of him fathering a child with his maid surfaced. Another example of the same was the consequential divorce of Maria Shriver and Arnold.

But there are also instances when the members of the family come clean about their past. One such incident took place when Arnold’s youngest daughter, Christina Schwarzenegger, revealed she used to struggle with addiction to medicine.

The younger daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger struggled with addiction

Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s younger daughter, Christina Schwarzenegger, came clean about having struggled with addiction issues while in college. As a young child, Christina was diagnosed with ADD. When she was in ninth grade, Christina started taking Adderall to help her focus. A few months later, she discontinued taking the medicine because she did not like the side effects it had.

But when she joined a college that was ‘academically rigorous,’ Christina started taking the meds again. “I didn’t really become too dependent on it until I was in my junior year of college. In our junior and senior year of college, I pretty much used it very frequently.” But Christina clarified earlier that she did not take them anymore. She also mentioned that medicine might do more harm than good if not managed properly.

“You get a high from it. But in a completely different arena, it’s very helpful obviously for people to have ADD, who struggle with their attention span. It is a very helpful drug for those types of people.” Christina said the med should be taken on an “as-needed,” basis or as prescribed by the doctor, instead of abusing it.

How Christina quit using Adderall

Having developed a seriously abusive habit around the medicine, it became increasingly complicated for Christina to quit using it. Arnold’s daughter used the medicine for nearly two years before trying to quit.

During an interview, Christina discussed her journey of quitting using the drug. She said, “It was challenging. It took me about, I would say, like 6 to 7 months to kind of, really, get back to who I was. I started doing art again, which I did in high school. Which I hadn’t done for a while and just tapping back into who I identified with, pre-Adderall.” Christina also mentioned it was a struggle, but the support of her friends and family made the journey easier.
