“You Totally F*** Me”: Arnold Schwarzenegger Chose to Be In “Denial” After Coming Out of Major Surgery in 2018

Arnold Schwarzenegger rose to the top of his career as a bodybuilder, actor, and model. Schwarzenegger is one of the few bodybuilders who retired from the sport without any significant injuries or physical setbacks.

However, 2018 was not the best year for the 75-year-old former bodybuilder. The Austrian Oak had to undergo an open heart surgery that started as a minor procedure. Schwarzenegger opened up about living in denial of the surgery.

The interview burst Arnold’s bubble of denial

In an interview with Men’s Health in 2018, Arnold talked about his surgery in March of that year. The 7-time Mr. Olympia champ claimed he was still recovering from the surgery and chose not to think much about it.

Arnold Schwarzenegger came out of the hospital and believed nothing had happened. It was his defense mechanism of not overthinking the seriousness of his situation. However, the interviewer reminded him of his condition and almost ruined his day. Arnold said, “I normally live in denial.” He added, “Yeah, you totally f***** me up.” Schwarzenegger then talked about cardiovascular exercises and cycling to care for his heart. He also advised working out with machines to avoid injuries.

Arnold once revealed having a flagrant appetite in his bodybuilding days. He admitted to eating an entire cherry pie before a bodybuilding contest and still winning it. Despite eating mindlessly at times, Arnold was a bodybuilding giant known for his chiseled physique.

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets a reality check

The reality check Arnold got in 2018 with the surgery made him conscious of his diet. Schwarzenegger claimed he went meat-free after his surgery. The meat-free diet made his lousy cholesterol levels sink deep.

The Austrian Oak said that going for a vegetarian diet helps him as well as the environment. He believes raising animals for meat and cutting down trees for the same reason creates a lot of pollution.
