Three-time Mr. Olympia Frank Zane had a physique that was undeniably the most desired body. Contrary to the stereotypical bodybuilding physique, Frank did not have the ideal body type. Small waist, chiseled edges, broad shoulders, and shark look. However, the retired bodybuilder had an aesthetically aligned physique. Unlike other bodybuilding regimes, Frank had a definite ideology. He chose lightweight training over heavyweight and combined it with his mind-boggling ‘mind-muscle’ technique. Similarly, his nutrition plan was also out-of-the-box that did not align with the existing nutrition intake idea.

Frank Zane won Mr. Olympia consecutively for three years (1977 to 1979). His remarkably graceful physique enabled him to win Mr. America, Mr. Universe, and Mr. World. Also, in 1999, Frank became an inductee into the IFBB Hall of Fame.

Why does Frank Zane have a radical approach to nutrition?

Besides having the best-looking body, Frank also enlightened the industry about unconventional bodybuilding techniques. He resorted to lightweight training because he detested the number of injuries heavyweight training does to the body. Frank also had a unique approach to his nutrition. His nutritional approach was so inimitable that he was called ‘The Chemist’ during his heydays.

Recently, in 2019, when Frank was asked about his radical nutrition approach in an interview with Bodybuilding.com, he expressed that changing his mind about nutrition is not possible. He commented that he does not cater to what people say. The former bodybuilder believes in his own experience. Despite having a master’s degree in experimental psychology and the ability to read and research, Frank goes by what works out for him. He also added, “It may be an idea to test but I basically have accumulated 50 years of training experience in things that I know work for me and they are what I resort to. So it doesn’t matter what other people say. If it is not my experience, I won’t practice it.”
