There hardly was any couple in bodybuilding with the same public attention as Ronnie Coleman and Vickie Gates. The duo was known to be the strongest couple, pound for pound, based on their heavy physique and incredible strength. The couple met in 1992 and dated for 7 years before moving their separate ways.

Decades after the original documentary was done, Ronnie used his youtube channel to throw a little nostalgia in his fans’ way. The original documentary chronicled the tough prep it took for the couple leading up to the premiere stage competitions like Mr and Ms. Olympia.

The duo of Coleman and Gates were a force to be reckoned with back in the day. The couple would prepare and weigh out their portions together while training and motivating each other. Ronnie was known as “The king” and was one of the heaviest bodybuilders of all time.

He won multiple accolades including Mr. Olympia a total of 8 times. In the meantime, Gates herself was on a mission to conquer the world, and she was winning stages left and right. Vickie is the winner of three Ms. International titles. In the video, Vickie is seen weighing out the chicken breast for both her and Ronnie, before heading off to the gym.

The documentary followed the couple into the gym where they could be seen lifting some really big weights. The couple’s one major communication was through working out and getting their physique stage ready. And, in this video, they were seen doing just that. Vickie went first, repping a 1000lb leg press with ease, and then Ronnie “The King” Coleman followed.

Ronnie, not only used all the plates in the gym but even took the reporter onto the machine. The couple had only one goal in their mind, to bring the titles Mr. Olympia and Ms. Olympia into the same household.

The individual on-stage careers of this duo

Although both Coleman and Gates had been incredible during their stage days, the goal of achieving both the Olympia titles remained untouched. While Ronnie flew up, winning the Mr. Olympia 8 times. Gates could only come in second position a couple of times. She eventually retired in 2003.

All in all, both athletes have inspired the sport in their unique way. Vickie earned a place that was beside the legends like Yolanda Hughes and Lesa Lewis.
