The iconic Mike Tyson has etched his name in the sport’s history not just because of his stringent punches and exacting kicks, but also because of his competitive edge. For his distinctive beliefs about the importance of having a healthy competitive edge in athletics, Tyson continues to receive a swarm of recognition from his fandom. However, among his cheerers, the one who took the front seat is none other than the 11x WSL champion, Kelly Slater.

In 2021, Iron Mike appeared in an interview with the Valuetainment podcast, where he profoundly chatted about his views on competition in sports. Nonetheless, as the two-year-old video resurfaces, Slater took a moment to hail the boxer for his words of wisdom.

Recently, the Valuetainment host, Patrick Bet-David, took to his Instagram to share an excerpt from Tyson’s 2021 interview. In the post, the boxer conceded, “I think of competition as people reaching their highest potential. Competition is always good because it helps you not to give in under the slightest struggle in life. Because life is going to give everybody a bad hand and no one’s going to leave here without being tried in life”.

Following this, Slater took to his Instagram handle to share the boxer’s words with his social media family. The surfer tagged Iron Mike and hailed him by adding two-raised hand emoticons. Clearly, the 51-year-old was utterly elated with Kid Dynamite’s perspective on sportsmanship.

Competition is great. It builds character and it gives you backbone”. However, this is not the first time when Kid Dynamite inspired his fans with his pearls of wisdom.

Though Iron Mike holds a prominent status in his vocation, the youngest boxer faced a series of ups and downs in his personal life. However, the icon believes that time has humbled him and helped him find peace with his adversities. The undisputable heavyweight champion once revealed, “My wife and kids, they can’t imagine me be in the house for this long. I would get up in the morning, I would leave the house at 9 in the morning, and I would come back at 9, the next morning. I was never those house-husbands.” He further added, “Time humbles you. You want to see them evolve like, you want to see them have a great childhood like yourself“.
