With Carlsen and Nepo in the finals of Airthings Masters, it was a world chess championship battle all over again, and the result was also the same. After five draw games between the two, Carlsen finally showcased why he is the best chess player in the world. In game six, just like in the world championship, Carlsen overpowered the game and the Russian Grandmaster couldn’t do anything other than resigning from the game.
After winning the first tournament of Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, Carlsen said, “These things are always going to be about whether you can perform on that particular day. But even so my games were going in a positive direction here. I felt I was playing better as the tournament went along and that was enough.”
