Jennifer Gates has always been a part of the world of equestrian sports. She has been riding horses since she was six years old. She has credited her parents for her success as a rider and claims that they have always supported her adventures in horseriding. As a student, Gates has always had to balance her education as well as her equestrian career.

She pursued her undergraduate degree in human biology at Stanford University and is currently an MD candidate at the Icahn School of Medicine in New York City. Her family has played an important role in helping her balance the two lives.

Jennifer Gates once spoke about her family’s equestrian outings

In an interview that was published in the June-July 2019 issue of the magazine Equestrian Living, Gates spoke at length about the undying support that she has always received from her family in all respects of her life. In the interview, Jennifer Gates said, “I’m fortunate that my family travels quite a bit, so we end up seeing each other in different locales-whether it’s me supporting them or them coming to support me.”

She also spoke fondly about her siblings, and added, “I’m very close with my siblings, too, so I’m also Earl, lucky that I get to see them when it’s possible.” Gates revealed that their family goes on several shared outings that are their own equestrian adventures. She said, “We love doing family trail rides, which are super fun.”

Jennifer Gates divulged how her parents have always come forward to provide encouragement in everything she has ever wanted to do in her life.

According to Gates, “My parents have been such a significant support for me in pursuing my dreams not only financially, but emotionally, whether that would be going to medical school, which I’m going to start this year, or whether it’s in the equestrian world and helping me balance and figure out whatever I want to do with my life.”

Gates and her hobbies

It is no surprise that Jennifer Gates loves her family so much. However, even though she loves human connection, downtime is equally important for her. In the interview, she revealed, “I think human connection is a great blessing, but when I have some quiet time I enjoy reading or going for a run or a trail ride.” She has various other hobbies, and reading books on specific topics is one of them.

“I’m interested in a variety of topics, so books have been a great way for me to explore those during my gap year,” she said. Gates also revealed that she is a big lover of food, and also bakes in her spare time.

Gates stated that “Another thing that I like doing in my spare time, because I’m a big foodie, is baking. I love baking… also a nice way to show appreciation for the people around you, so I tend to bake a lot of things and then take them to the barn or to family and friends.”
