Equestrian sports have always been a constant source of exhilaration and freedom for all horse riders. Unfortunately, with happiness, comes the possibility of grave and lethal injuries that might put one on the hospital bed for weeks. A similar misfortune befell the famous news presenter, Jacqueline Felgate when she was rushed to the hospital after a horse riding accident.

Jacqui Felgate is popular for her presence on TV screens and has covered anything and everything from the Olympics to Wimbledon. In addition to this, she has another passion, which is riding horses. Felgate has ridden horses since she was a teenager, but her recent stint on horseback resulted in a speedy journey to the hospital.

For Felgate, horse riding has always been the perfect way for maintaining her physical and mental health. Even though her career is a demanding one, she always takes time out from her busy schedule on horseback. The famous news presenter even owns a thoroughbred and former racehorse, Red. Last Tuesday, the former Channel 7 news reader, who currently hosts 3 AW Football, had to be transported to the hospital after she fell from her horse.

According to 7 News, she told the Herald Son, “I had a tumble off a horse, much to my embarrassment”. Fortunately, the injuries proved to be non-fatal, and no bones were broken in the accident. Felgate said, “No broken bones, I got great care at the RMH and then had the night off (hosting 3AW Football) on Friday night.” As scary as the incident might have been, Felgate is not ready to let go of her passion. In fact, she plans to get back to horse riding as soon as physically possible. “As they say, after you fall off you’ve gotta get right back on, and I’ll be back next week,” she said.

Jacqui is not the only equestrian in her family. Her daughters are also accomplished equestrians, and one of her daughters is going to compete in an equestrian event this Saturday. According to the presenter, “She’s a better rider than me!” However, Jacqui has also been involved in her fair share of horse riding and is even an ambassador for an organization that rehabilitates retired racehorses and thoroughbreds. This is also how she found her 15-year-old thoroughbred.

The story of how Felgate met Red

While the teenage Jacqui was an avid rider, the adult Jacqui fell completely out of touch with horse riding due to a demanding and busy career. The only connection the journalist had left with equestrian sports was an occasional day at the races. However, all of this changed when she re-ignited her love for riding at Jolong Park at Bangholme. She started out with an Irish horse named Kit, but then soon met Red.

Earlier, another rider had been leasing out the thoroughbred. Consequently, the other rider decided to buy another horse, and Felgate decided she wanted Red all to herself. Red soon became a family favorite, and Felgate even expressed how she felt safe riding the horse. In fact, she had no qualms about trusting her kids with the horse, that is how special Red became. With a horse like this, it is no surprise that she wants to get on horseback as soon as possible.
