There are two routines in figure skating. A short program and a long program. The first event lasts for two minutes and 50 seconds while the long program lasts for around four minutes. With the number of jumps, twists, and spins involved, skaters need to practice the sport every single day for long hours.

Why is it so hard?
The training will be a multi-year process. The body of figure skaters is lean as they would reduce the pressure on the knees while landing from the incredible number of jumps they do. By mimicking the time limit from the competition, the skaters practice high-intensity workouts to perfect their routines, from start to finish. Likewise, injuries are common for figure skaters. Most of them complain about stress fractures and tendonitis on the feet and legs. With all the injuries and other struggles, Medvedeva has decided not to put her kids through it.

Being a figure skater demands total commitment to the sport. While every sport is the same, being a top-class figure skater will need them to train at very high levels. Thus, Olympic medalist Medvedeva voiced her opinions about the sport.
