American former artistic gymnast and Olympian Shawn Johnson East and her NFL husband Andrew East recently expanded their family from four to five members. Welcoming their adorable baby boy on December 12, 2023, the couple were overjoyed to give their children Drew, 4, and Jett, 2, another sibling.

The newest addition, a baby boy named Barrett Madison, has affectionately been nicknamed “Bear” in tribute to Andrew’s late father, who passed away last year. Now enjoying the new journey of parenthood once again, Olympian Shawn Johnson East shared her thoughts on expanding their family further.

The 2008 Olympic balance beam gold medalist Shawn Johnson East took to Instagram stories on December 22, 2023, and invited fans to “Ask me a question.” Adding a picture of Baby Bear all snuggled up in a blue onesie while enjoying a nap in his comfortable bed, she answered a question that said, “Is he your last baby”?

To which the retired gymnast answered, “I would say yes. Our family feels complete.”  This surprising update from the gymnast just out of pregnancy came after she opened up about her post-pregnancy and surgery health update that left her “sore and swollen.”

How the beautiful journey to motherhood came with it’s struggles

In the same “Ask me a question” segment on her Instagram stories, a fan asked Shawn Johnson about the experience of Bear’s birth compared to that of her previous children, Drew and Jett. To which the 31-year-old retired gymnast Shawn Johnson East replied, saying that she had to undergo her third C-section.

Sharing the experience of giving birth for the third time, she said, “Third c-section was definitely the hardest but smoothest (if that’s possible HA).” She even shared the aftermath of the beautiful process, saying, “Had so much scar tissue that they cut out and cleaned up, so I was SUPER sore and swollen”.  Despite the challenges, she emphasized the immense joy that baby “Bear” has brought to their family.
