It hasn’t been easy for Simone Biles to reach gymnastics glory. Time and again she has been handed the short end of the stick by life. From a rocky start with a drug-addicted birth mother that led to her adoption when she was just six, Biles has come a long way from her adversities.

Not to mention back in 2019, her brother Tevin Biles-Thomas was arrested on the charge of murder among other felonies. As he was Simone Biles’ biological brother, the ordeal was incredibly tough on her.

Simone Biles commented on her brother’s arrest

In August 2019, the police arrested Tevin Biles-Thomas on charges of homicide, voluntary manslaughter, felonious assault, and perjury. He was allegedly involved in a 2018 New Year’s Eve party shooting in Cleveland that left three men dead and two injured.

After his arrest, Simone Biles expressed her condolences to the victims’ families. “My heart aches for everyone involved, especially for the victims and their families,” Biles tweeted, saying she was “still having a hard time processing last weeks news” of her sibling’s arrest.

“There is nothing that I can say that will heal anyone’s pain, but I do want to express my sincere condolences to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy,” she wrote. Granted Biles has been in the public eye for a long time, the media frenzy following her brother’s arrest was enormous.

“I ask everyone to please respect my family’s privacy as we deal with our pain. XO,” she finished. Though Biles-Thomas and the gymnastics legend are siblings, they did not grow up together. The four siblings were put in foster care when Biles was just three, before social services called up their known relatives.

Biles’ relationship with her brother

When Simone Biles turned six, Ronald Biles, her maternal grandfather, adopted her and her sister Adria. Meanwhile, Ron’s sister adopted their siblings, Ashley and Tevin.

But Biles maintained a good relationship with them despite growing up in a different home. She tweeted “my brother tevin | everyone says we look like twins but we don’t see it” back in 2017 along with pictures of them posing together. Before her statement, Biles had previously only tweeted, “eating my feelings don’t talk to me” regarding her brother’s arrest.

Just last year, a judge acquitted Tevin Biles-Thomas of all his charges. After two and a half years, his first case was declared a mistrial. And a month later Biles-Thomas was proven innocent.
