Shaquille O’Neal Admits Having Same Mental Health Issue as Simone Biles

The stunning Simone Biles made an iconic decision at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics that left people surprised. She withdrew from gymnastics competitions because of mental health struggles. Biles created ripples across the world with her bold decision. While many people keep silent about their problems, she came out and addressed the issue she had.

Likewise, former NBA champion Shaquille O’Neal addressed his struggles with ADHD in a recent interview with Stephen Colbert.

Shaquille O’Neal’s problems with ADHD

An icon on and off the basketball court, Shaq is one of the most dominant centers in the world. He is incredible and has dominated the basketball court for years. Shaq mentioned having Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. He didn’t lay back about it and spoke about the problems he had while focusing on something.

“Well, first of all, I have to have my chi-chi. Like if too much is going on, I can’t concentrate. I have super ADHD,” said O’Neal.

ADHD is a common mental disorder among children. It is often diagnosed at an early age, and it often lasts into adulthood. Shaq also had the problem of ADHD. By doing different exercises, he talked about how he coped with the problem. Irrespective of that, he is a four-time NBA champion and has dominated the paint for a long time. Shaq is one of the best players in the world and is a legend of the game.

Simone Biles’ withdrawal from gymnastics

As for Biles, she returned after not appearing in team gymnastics competitions. She won a bronze medal for her signature balance beam competition. But, as a result of suffering from ADHD, she was experiencing ‘twisties’, while not being able to take ADHD medication in Japan. They banned the medicine to be used in their country.

Dealing with mental disorders is not a straightforward task. When everything seems normal, the reality of the situation will be utterly different. Hence, Biles and Shaq have problems with ADHD as they look to overcome it.
