“She Reached Out”: Simone Biles Reveals How Taylor Swift Helped Her After Tokyo Olympics 2020

The world of gymnastics is home to a lot of unique talents, such as Svetlana Khorkina, Larisa Latynina, Nadia Comaneci, and many others. However, the impact Simone Biles has had on the sport, despite being a youngster, is unlike anything else. Widely regarded as the GOAT, she dominated the Rio Olympics, winning four gold medals, announcing her arrival in style.

Given her heroics in Rio, she was the favorite to triumph at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. However, following a rare case of ‘twisties’ while performing, Simone took the bold step and withdrew from the team’s artistic gymnastics competition, leaving the world in utter disbelieve.

Citing mental concerns, Biles took the world by storm with her decision to withdraw. As she faced heavy backlash, many entities came out in support of her. Among others was pop-star Taylor Swift. Notably, Simone recently spoke about the support she received from the singing sensation, thanking her for the same.

Soon now, Simone Biles will bestow Taylor Swift with the Gracie Grand Award at the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation’s 46th Gracie Awards on Tuesday. This would be a fitting tribute to Taylor, thanking her for having her back when she needed it the most.

“I can’t tell you how much I love Taylor and her music. But ‘Folklore’ is not the only incredible thing she did during this ongoing pandemic. She has shown immense grace and generosity to many of her fans in need, including me. During the 2020 Olympics she reached out, but she also dedicated something so special to me that I’ll never forget,” said Biles.

Their heartwarming relationship kick-started in Tokyo when Biles withdrew her participation under unprecedented circumstances. Notably, Taylor spoke in favor of Biles, even as she dealt with heavy criticism.

As the never-seen-before events unfolded at the mega-quadrennial games, many people supported the 24-year-old for her move; One of those was Swift.

“When you have the attention of the world, everything you do takes on a bigger meaning. It can be a heavy burden,” said Swift.

The pressure of representing your country on the biggest stage can be overwhelming. A gymnast, that is considered the best, had to withdraw from the events, reminding everyone that even athletes are human. Eventually, Biles returned to the games and competed on the balance beam, winning the bronze medal and shushing her haters.

At a time and place where mental health issues are not being prioritized, Biles’ contributions have been noteworthy. Hence, she is the most influential personality in the world right now. Undoubtedly, it will be a significant moment when Biles hands over the much-deserving award to the icon, Taylor Swift.
