There are a lot of fans in the world who would give anything to meet Simone Biles in person. She is, after all, a superstar, the gymnastics GOAT. But in the same way, Biles herself also had a massive celebrity crush. And it is none other than the teen heartthrob Zac Efron.

When she won the team event at the 2016 Rio Olympics as a part of the Final Five, her dream to meet him in person finally came true.

Orchestrated by TODAY’s Hoda Kotb, celebrity actor Zac Efron was hiding in a small corridor to surprise the gold-winning team after their performance. Biles had told Kotb in an earlier interview that she would pass out if Efron ever came to watch her perform in Rio.

Efron watched Biles’ performance on a big screen with Kotb and geared up to meet the Final Five as they came in for their post-victory interview. When he came out and surprised them, all the members of the team started screaming. Biles may have been unfazed by the millions of eyes on her as she gave her winning performance, but in front of her crush, she just was like a surprised teenager.

Afterward, Zac Efron shared what it was like for him to wait about 7 hours to finally meet the team. “Their story just blew my mind,” Efron told Hoda Kotb and Matt Lauer. “When I found out Simone and this team were fans, I was like, ‘What kind of guy am I if I don’t show up?”’

Simone Biles has been a big fan of Zac Efron

The legendary gymnast’s love for the movie star is well documented. Back in 2013, Biles declared her love for the star on Twitter. By the next year, she had a life-size cardboard cutout of him in her room that she would kiss on the cheek.

In 2016, she went on The Ellen Show and received a leotard with Zac Efron’s face printed on it a few dozen times. She liked the gift so much that she wanted to wear it to P&G’s. As Biles headed to the US Olympic Trials for Rio, Efron wished her luck, and let’s just say, our gymnastics star just felt out of this world.

It’s safe to say, Biles was pleasantly surprised when Efron came to cheer for the team and meet them in Rio.
