In April 2005, an 8-year-old child was about to get hit by an oncoming truck. But MLB superstar Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez managed to save him swiftly. The 8-year-old kid, Patrick McCarthy, was a huge fan of A-Rod, and he was his favorite player from the New York Yankees. Today, Patrick McCarthy might be around 25 years of age and must cherish this memory, as his favorite player became a guardian angel on that day.

How did Alex ‘A-Rod’ Rodriguez save the kid?

In April 2005, Alex Rodriguez was at Newbury Street, in downtown Boston, Massachusetts. The incident occurred around 3.30 pm when 8-year-old Patrick McCarthy was running across the street without looking at the incoming vehicles. Meanwhile, A-Rod saw this situation and suddenly a truck was coming down the street at a speed of 40-50 mph. A-Rod became vigilant and took hold of the kid and pulled him back, thus saving his life. Rodriguez put his life at stake by rushing near the sidewalk to save the little kid from getting into a serious accident.

After the incident, A-Rod talked about what happened. “The kid was going to get run over. I just kind of put my arm out and stopped him. I almost got it too. But, I did it and I just kept walking. That was a train wreck waiting to happen,” said A-Rod.
A television channel interviewed Patrick McCarthy, who stated, “This guy (A-Rod) just put his hand in front of me and stopped me. I was like, Wow! I was shocked because he’s my favorite player on the Yankees.”
