“Go at Me Like a Man” – New York Mets’ Pete Alonso Throws a Challenge to Cardinals Coach After His ‘Cheap’ Attack on Him

The New York Mets have been playing some quality baseball lately. Thanks to some quality players, Pete Alonso, Francisco Lindor, and even Max Scherzer, the Mets have emerged as one of the best MLB sides this season.
Despite winning lots of games and series, the Mets have also been engaged in a few brawls due to hit-by-pitches in every other game. There is not a single series when they did not engage in a brawl or even an argument with the opposition team this season.

Right from the start of the season with the Washington Nationals to the recent series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Mets always find a way to create some scene in the ballpark. The recent one against the Cardinals went to the next level. The brawl led to bench-clearing from both sides.
Pete Alonso did not want to send anyone to the hospital
On Wednesday, the Mets were playing the third game against the Cardinals. Having won the first two games, the Mets had already won the series. Before the third game, the Mets and Cardinals had already engaged in some heated conversation because of multiple hit-by-pitch incidents.

But on Wednesday, both teams engaged in a massive brawl when the Mets pitcher Yoan Lopez threw a nasty fastball near the Cardinals hitter Nolan Arenado’s head. Moments after that pitch, benches cleared of both sides and engaged in a massive fight on the field.
The Mets star Pete Alonso got attacked by the Cardinals players and first base coach Stubby Clapp. The Cardinals coach tackled Alonso from the back and held him on the ground. Responding to this incident, Pete said it was cheap going from behind.

“I thought that was kind of cheap going from behind,” Alonso said. “If you want to hold me back if you want to restrain me, go at me like a man.”
The Mets star also warned that had he wanted, he could have sent them to the hospital. But he was just trying to save his teammates. “I am a big strong guy. They do not know my temper,” Alonso said. “They do not know what I could do. If I wanted to put someone in the hospital, I easily could. But I was just trying to protect my guys.”

Though the Mets lost the game 10-5 to the Cardinals, they won the series. Only time will tell how far the Mets will go this season.
