The New York Mets have had a rock solid off season in 2022. Atleast until the lockout that is. Owner, Steve Cohen doesn’t seem like he is going to be holding back the spending this time to make the Mets a contender for the world series. With some major free agent signings coupled with the signing of Buck Showalter, the Mets are out to win.

The New York Mets may not have had a post season run since 2016 but they sure seem to be building to one. Their loss in the 2015 World Series can only act as fuel to those that want to motivate themselves and come back stronger. But the regular season is built in the off-season.

The trade for Jeff McNeil

However, some fans have said online that a trade is ill-advised. Atleast in the current situation. The current valuation of McNeil might be too low for the Mets to make good the ceiling his trade value can actually hit. And all considerations aside, McNeil seems to be a pretty good offensive option too.

Some fans however ran a slightly different scenario. Stating that the time was now to trade McNeil and cut their losses instead of risking regression. While fan sentiment may not necessarily be backed by advanced number crunching, there is an opinion there nonetheless.

The New York Mets have have been in talks to trade Jeff McNeil for a long time but talks have balked before. The Mets have apparently though, after some consideration, put him up for trade talks again. While the roster for the Mets looks to be coming together, there still remains some gaps.

The clearest example is in pitcher depth. While the Mets may have the most star power on the mound with both deGrom and Scherzer set to man the mound come 2022. But there aren’t too many options behind those two in the pecking order.

Potential deals could involve trades with teams that have plenty prospects in the pitching department, including the likes of the Chicago White Sox. While there exists the potential of a trade brewing on the horizon, there are no concrete guarantees yet.

Especially with the lockout still looming it is unlikely any talks will come to fruition sometime soon. But Mets fans will be hoping that the season is better than their 2021 run, when they were bundled out of contention for the post season spots in late September.
