In the past two-three months, only two things have remained constant; owners’-imposed lockout and rumors around the top free agents. Notably, because of the lockout, neither any team nor a player is in a position to negotiate for any contract. From Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman, and Clayton Kershaw, they are yet to join any team because of the work stoppage in MLB.

And once the lockout ends, MLB teams will fight over signing the best possible player for their teams. When talking about the top free agents, Freddie Freeman has been a hot topic for a while in the MLB market. However, his future destination is still in a dark.

Did the New York Mets try to sign Freeman before the lockout?

Now, with the lockout possibly coming to its end, the talk around Freeman will have to decide his future destination at the earliest. There is no denying that the New York Yankees have Freeman on their radar, while the Braves also want him to keep at their side. But, a recent report suggests that even before the lockout, New York Mets tried to sign the first baseman.

“There’s a perception in the industry that Freddie Freeman is not going back to the Braves, Last summer, that was assumed, like ‘Yeah, eventually he’ll go back there,” said SNY report. “Now, they don’t believe that, and here’s an interesting thing. One of the teams that checked in on the Freddie Freeman availability before December 2nd were the Mets.”
