The New York Mets have put together one of the most iconic 1-2 combinations to grace their mound in 2022. While MLB has seen some quality pitching rotations take the mound before this, the Mets have put together a fearful lineup. With Jacob DeGrom and Max Scherzer, both set to pitch in Citi Field in 2022, batters are right to fear home plate. And yet there is doubt between the two regarding chemistry. It appears however that Scherzer is fast putting those doubts to bed.

With Spring training getting going for MLB, the players are getting back in the groove; and Mets players are no different. Pitching is as much about rhythm as it is about skill and spring training is crucial to get back in form. And Scherzer seems to be doing bits for the Mets. So much so infact that there are no longer any doubts that remain regarding the pitcher’s commitments to the team and roster.

Max Scherzer delivers

With a lockout-shortened off-season and the negotiations between the players contingent and the league lengthening well into March, players were afraid that Scherzer might not have had enough time to ramp back up to action. However, those doubts seem to have been dispelled within the first few weeks of Spring Training. With Scherzer showing the same output as he had last season, the Mets can get hyped for sure.

According to media reports, the respect for Max Scherzer and his work ethic seems to be “through the roof.”

While it was well known across the league that Scherzer was definitely one of the top pitchers in the league he also had a reputation as one of the most intense. And he is living up to that reputation. While some players were previously concerned, those no longer remain discussion points.

Mets’ roster members were reportedly concerned that he may have been distracted by the CBA negotiations where Scherzer was a representative on behalf of the players, but those seem to have had no effect on Scherzer or on his preparations. Reportedly, he is back to throwing from pitching 90 deliveries from the mound; which is nothing if not indicative of keeping up with his practice.

But what do you think? Does Scherzer have enough in the tank to deliver the season that the Mets need? Does he need more support or will DeGrom be enough to carry the Mets through in 2022?
