Shohei Ohtani and baseball are made for each other. Fans would agree that watching Ohtani in the ballpark is a sight for sore eyes. Hence, having a player of his caliber by their side, no one can rule the Angels out of the game.

However, the Angels cannot guarantee that he will play for them forever. Because after the 2022 season, Ohtani’s contract with the LA Angels is set to expire. And if the Angels do not extend his contract before the end of this season, Ohtani will enter free agency.

While fans stay restless and eager for him to sign an extension, Ohtani is not in a hurry to extend his contract; instead, the Angels star wants to focus on the next season.

Undoubtedly, given his playing capabilities, having a player like Ohtani is a dream for every MLB side. But too bad for the others, because once again, this season, he will play for the Angels. And only after that, he will become a free agent.

Earlier in 2020, LA Angels signed Shohei Ohtani on a two-year deal for a mere $8.5 million. And in the 2021 season, he was the American League MVP. He also went on to hit a total of 46 home runs for the Angels in the 2021 season. Not to forget, apart from hitting, he can also pitch, making him a rare two-way player.

Shohei Ohtani’s Interpreter Left la Angels During MLB Lockout – Here’s Why

If Ohtani doesn’t extend his contract with the Angels, then there will be a bidding war for him after this season, given he is the most lucrative player in the league right now. However, the Japanese superstar isn’t bothered by that as he only wants to focus on his current season and has decided to let his agent deal with the contract proposals.

He said, “I just want to focus on the season. Whether they approach me about it or not during the season, I will leave that to my agent.”
