Wow! This Popular Trio at the New York Yankees, Including Derek Jeter, Played 17 Years Together for the Same Team

In the past two decades, there has not been a better player than Derek Jeter in Major League Baseball. And during his spell at the Yankees, he had played an instrumental role in their success. However, most of the baseball fans might not be aware that it wasn’t only Jeter who helped the Yankees to win titles.

There is a popular saying in sports, ‘talent wins games, and teamwork wins championships.’ In sporting history, there have been many trios of players for various teams that have led their teams to glories.

For example, Lou Gehrig, Earle Combs, and Babe Ruth in baseball, Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and Craig in NFL, and James Worthy, Magic Johnson, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in NBA have been some of the best trios in the history of four major sports leagues. But, the Yankees trio of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and Jorge Posada has not been spoken of very much.

Notably, between the late 90s and early 2000s, the Yankees dominated Major League Baseball. And their core team was surrounded by the likes of Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Jorge Posada, and Andy Pettitte.

Interestingly, except Pettitte, the three of them went on to play together for a record 17 years at the Yankees. They are the only trio to play for such a long time that too for only one team.

While talking to Darius Miles and Quentin Richardson on ‘The Payers’ Tribune’ podcast, Derek Jeter revealed that had Andy not gone to play for the Astros, it would have been four.

“You know, you always hear the core four, right? So they mentioned me, Mariano, Andy, and Jorge. Me, Mariano, and Jorge are the only trio in any of the sports to play 17 years together on the same team. And with Andy, it would have been four. But he went to play in Houston for a couple of years and came back. Otherwise, it’s the four of us,” said the Yankees legend.
