Film star and pioneer of mixed martial arts, Bruce Lee had laid the foundation for a unique form of the action genre. Besides his fighting skills, he emerged as a legendary actor in Hollywood. Some of his notable works are still cherished by action lovers. Hence, the anecdotes of his early life are naturally interesting to fans.

On a similar note, Lee once was thrilled about his upcoming project The Number One Son by producer William Dozier, per Bruce Lee: A Life. The latter wrote him a letter while sending him the proposal for a TV show. Correspondingly, Lee wrote back to the producer, expressing his delight.

According to the autobiographical, Bruce Lee: A Life by Matthew Polly, the Hong Kong star received a letter from show producer, William Dozier. The letter offered him a part in Dozier’s new show, Number One Son, in addition to recommending an agent’s name to Lee. The opportunity asked Lee to play the lead role. Obviously, he was elated over the instance.

Writing back to Dozier, the Fist of Fury actor stated, “This project does have tremendous potential and its uniqueness lies in the interfusion of the best of both the Oriental and American qualities plus the never before seen Gung Fu fighting techniques… I have a feeling that this Charlie Chan can be another James Bond success if handled properly.”

Furthermore, he added that the “presentation” filled him up with hope and excitement. He mentioned how he could enhance the essence of his role with hints of “coolness” and “subtleness.” Later on, Lee promised his wife something special after the big news.

As mentioned in the book, Lee signed an agreement with Dozier for a grand $19,000 as remuneration. Encouraged, the actor promised a honeymoon trip to his wife, Linda Lee Cadwell. Apparently, he was unable to afford one at the time of their wedding.

Lee said, “We’ll buy the whole of Hong Kong,” further assuring her that the trip would be special. Moreover, they even planned to fly back to the States before the shoot began in July. They took their son, Brandon Lee along on their vacation.
