Bruce Lee contributed immensely to the action drama industry and never gave up on his quest to become an iconic Hollywood superstar. While Lee had already earned a hoard full of success in Hollywood with his Kung Fu flair, he decided to expand his acting roots in the Chinese film industry as well. With the 1971 action-drama movie, ?The Big Boss?, the Little Phoenix debuted in the Hong Kong film industry. Interestingly, the director who gave Lee his first break was none other than Lo Wei.?

Years after co-starring in The Green Hornet, the Little Phoenix returned to Hong Kong, where he signed two projects with Golden Harvest productions. Nevertheless, under the direction of Lo Wei, Lee starred in movies like The Big Boss (1971) and the Fist of Fury (1972). However, a year later, Lee engaged in a heated confrontation with Wei and ?pulled a knife? to threaten the director.?

As per the book of Matthew Polly, Bruce Lee: a life, since they started working together, Lee and Wei always had a conflict in their opinions. The bitterness ran deep when Lee found out that Wei was telling the media that he was responsible for Bruce Lee?s on-screen martial arts talents. It enraged Lee, who confronted Wei about the revelations he read in the newspapers.

On the sets of Golden Harvest, Lee rushed to the screening room and unsheathed a knife hidden in his belt buckle. He then pointed the blade at Lo Wei and asked, ?Do you believe I could kill you with this knife??.?

However, the Golden Harvest studio president, Raymond Chow, and producer Andre Morgan intervened in the scene and dragged furious Lee out of the room. Yet, it was not the first time the Little Phoenix and Wei got engaged in a heated argument.

The revelation that led to the conflicts between Lee and Lo Wei

The Hong Kong director once told the press that, ?Lee didn?t know how to fight in front of the camera?I told him how he needed to fight?. Following this, the Dragon yelled at Wei for calling himself Lee?s mentor. ?You called yourself ?the Dragon?s mentor??, an infuriated Lee stated. However, Wei countered the Dragon by saying, ?I only said I showed you how to fight for the cameras. The skill, the talent, that?s yours, Bruce?.

Nevertheless, Lee and Wei frequently engaged in arguments due to the director?s impromptu revelations in front of the press. The discrepancies between the two even made Lee threaten Wei with his knife. Despite these differences, their creativity together only resulted in blockbusters on screen. What do you think?
